Den Haag, 1 augustus 2008 ? IDS Scheer AG, toonaangevend leverancier van oplossingen voor Business Process Management (BPM), noteerde in het tweede kwartaal van het boekjaar 2008 een omzetstijging naar 102,1 miljoen euro. Deze groei was volledig organisch. In hetzelfde kwartaal van 2007 was de omzet 99,6 miljoen euro. De groei kwam uit op acht procent in vergelijking met het eerste kwartaal van 2008 en drie procent ten opzichte van hetzelfde kwartaal in 2007.
Na aanpassingen in verband met valutaverschillen groeide de omzet jaar-op-jaar met vier procent. De IDS Scheer Groep realiseerde een operationele EBITA-winst van 7,7 miljoen euro. Dat is bijna twee keer zoveel als in het eerste kwartaal van 2008 (+85 procent). Zoals verwacht, was de EBITA lager dan in dezelfde periode van 2007 (10 miljoen euro), aangezien het tweede kwartaal van 2007 gekarakteriseerd werd door een uitzonderlijk groot aantal licentieorders. De EBITA-marge in het tweede kwartaal van 2008 kwam uit op 7,5 procent.

Saarbrücken, July 29, 2008IDS Scheer AG, the leading global provider of business process management (BPM) solutions, increased its revenue to € 102.1 million in the second quarter of 2008 solely on the basis of organic growth (previous year: € 99.6 million). This corresponds to growth of 8% compared with the first quarter of 2008 and 3% as against the same quarter of the previous year. Adjusted for currency translation effects, year-on-year global revenue growth amounted to 4%. The IDS Scheer group generated an operating profit before interest, taxes and amortization (EBITA) of € 7.7 million, almost double the figure recorded in the first quarter of 2008 (+85%). As expected, EBITA was down on the same period of the previous year (€ 10.0 million), since the second quarter of 2007 was characterized by an extraordinarily high level of license orders. The EBITA margin for the quarter under review amounted to 7.5%.
The earnings improvement measures announced in April have been successfully initiated. The positive course of business in the second quarter corresponds to the company’s stated intention of generating substantial improvements compared with the first three months of the year. Accordingly, the Executive Board is confident that the second half of 2008 will see the revenue and earnings growth year-on-year as announced and that the company will achieve its full year targets.
Employee developmentAs of June 30, 2008, the IDS Scheer group had a total of 3,065 employees. This represents an increase of 213 people or 7% as against the same period of the previous year (2,852). Compared with December 31, 2007 (2,992 employees), this means that IDS Scheer has increased its workforce by 73 during the year to date. The appointment of qualified employees is an investment in the future and will form the basis for the company's continued growth.
Development of business areasThe product business area, which consists of licenses, maintenance and services for the ARIS software platform, recorded quarterly revenue of € 32.2 million. This represents growth of 11% compared with the first quarter of 2008 and a decline of 7% as against the second quarter of the previous year.
The product business area generated EBITA of € 4.9 million, resulting in an EBITA margin of 15.1% after 6.5% in the first quarter 2008. This meant that earnings more than doubled as against the first quarter of 2008 (+157%); however, EBITA for the business area was down 40% year-on-year.
Within the product business, IDS Scheer generated revenue of € 11.9 million from the sale of ARIS licenses, an improvement of 2% on the first quarter of 2008 but down 24% year-on-year. ARIS maintenance revenue for the second quarter of 2008 amounted to € 6.7 million, up 11% on the first quarter and 20% compared with the same period of the previous year. ARIS services, which consist of product-related services such as training, accounted for revenue of € 13.6 million. This represents an increase of 22% on the first quarter of the current financial year and 2% on the second quarter of the previous year.
In the second quarter of 2008, the consulting business area increased its revenue by 7% quarter-on-quarter and by 7% year-on-year to € 69.9 million. The order backlog, which includes consulting and ARIS services, increased from € 90 million in the previous year to € 101 million as of June 30, 2008, representing growth of around 13%. Consulting EBITA improved by 25% as against the first quarter of 2008 to € 2.8 million. Growth as against the first quarter of the previous year is even more impressive at 41%. Accordingly, the EBITA margin increased to 4.0% in the second quarter of 2008.
Forecast for the whole year confirmed“The course of business in the second quarter was entirely in line with our expectations, with revenue and earnings significantly up compared with the first quarter of 2008 in both segments. Our ARIS ProcessWorld customer event in June, which was attended by a record of 1,600 participants from a total of 44 countries, confirmed the high level of demand for our solutions,” noted Thomas Volk, CEO and President of IDS Scheer AG. “Thanks to our positive business development and strong order situation, we are therefore confirming our forecast for the 2008 financial year as a whole. Thanks to the measures introduced with the aim of improving earnings and the reinforcement of our global sales organization, we have created a strong basis for the further expansion of the leading position enjoyed by our ARIS business process management software and a continued improvement in earnings margins over the coming years.”
In accordance with its published forecast for the fiscal year 2008, IDS Scheer AG expects to record total revenue of at least € 400 million at constant exchange rates and an EBITA margin for operating profit of between 8% and 9%.
In April 2008, measures were resolved with a view to sustainably reinforcing and increasing the company’s license volume. To this end, the company is bundling the strength of its two business areas, combining its ARIS product expertise with its competence in the consulting sector to increase value added for the customer. In addition to the ARIS product sales organization, also the consulting business area will focus on sales of ARIS licenses in future. At the same time, consulting resources will be concentrated on high-margin areas. Furthermore, back office functions will be bundled in shared services centers in order to improve quality and efficiency.
In order to support the company’s refocusing process, the Supervisory Board has formed a committee headed by the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Prof. August-Wilhelm Scheer.
