TO OFFER ADVANCED PROTECTION TO ITS CUSTOMERS
Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) has announced that for the eighth year running Packard Bell, European number two in the consumer PC desktop market and number five on the consumer notebook market (IDC. Q1 2007), has renewed its confidence in Symantec by choosing to equip its computers with the latest Symantec Internet security suites. Packard Bell will initially pre-install Norton Internet Security 2007 software on its PC range, representing more than two million computers in Europe and the Far East. OEM versions of Norton 360 will be pre-installed by autumn 2007. This means Packard Bell customers will be able to use the software installed on the system free of charge for three months and subscribe for 12 months after the trial period.
"PCs have an increasingly important role in the home, whether for surfing the Web, carrying out banking operations and purchases online, communicating with friends and family, listening to music or storing your favorite photographs", explains Janice Chaffin, Group President of Symantec Consumer Business Unit. "By buying computers pre-equipped with Norton Internet Security or Norton 360, Packard Bell customers have the benefit of comprehensive protection against conventional online threats but also against identity theft during online transactions, as well as the ability to back-up valuable files such as music and photographs."
Packard Bell and Symantec Partner to Educate Consumers
In an Internet environment where threats develop extremely quickly and are increasingly sophisticated, Packard Bell has chosen to advise its customers about the need to protect their computers and the personal information stored on them through an information website dedicated to PC security developed in partnership with Symantec
www.packardbell.com/playground/ The website provides Net surfers with news alerts on the latest threats identified by Symantec, a reminder of the golden rules about protecting their computers and personal data, and feature articles of an educational nature to explain current threats.
The website also provides Packard Bell with an opportunity to encourage its customers to renew their subscriptions after the trial period, enabling them to continue to have access to the daily updates that protect their computers against Internet threats.
"The integration of Norton is part of our aim to provide our customers with the best computer systems possible and incite them to surf safely on the Internet. The success of Packard Bell is based on design and ease of use, and the latest solutions from Symantec fit in perfectly with that strategy. The development of a website dedicated to security with Symantec demonstrates the solidity of our partnership." Said Emmanuel Fromont, VP Sales & Marketing, Packard Bell.
