Utimaco SafeGuard MailGateway 5.2 verandert vertrouwelijke e-mail in gecodeerde PDF bestanden

Utimaco SafeGuard MailGateway 5.2 turns confidential emails into encrypted PDFs

  • Unique SafeGuard PDFMail function enables secure opening of emails, including attachments, via a PDF reader
  • Recipient needs no encryption software for reading and answering encrypted emails
  • PDF format and offline use capability make confidential email communication and secure data storage easier
  • Product launch at CeBIT 2007: Hall 7 / Stand A 28 – available from April
Oberursel, March 1st, 2007 - Utimaco, The Data Security Company, will be showcasing SafeGuard MailGateway Version 5.2, for the first time at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany from March 15th to 21st, 2007. The application, formerly known as SecurE-Mail Gateway, has been extended with the addition of SafeGuard PDFMail functionality. SafeGuard MailGateway 5.2 functions as a central corporate ‘post office’, digitally signing and encrypting confidential emails before they are sent. SafeGuard PDFMail then converts the encrypted email, including attachments, into a PDF document. The benefits: For the first time, email recipients who are using SafeGuard PDFMail require no additional encryption software. If they have the right password the recipient can view the encrypted data on any fixed or mobile device with a PDF reader, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, and even reply to it, confidentially. SafeGuard MailGateway 5.2 including the SafeGuard PDFMail functionality will be presented for the first time at CeBIT, Hall 7, Stand A 28. The solution will be available from April.

SafeGuard MailGateway 5.2 can be used in a number of different ways: Internet services such as online banking, online brokerage or electronic invoicing can be handled securely over email for the first time. Even in areas such as healthcare or law, in which there are high levels of confidential communication, users will benefit from improved efficiency, mobility and security.

The growing threat to intellectual property, as well as existing data protection legislation, is putting companies and organizations under increasing pressure to protect their confidential email communication. SafeGuard MailGateway 5.2 with SafeGuard PDFMail, offers a fresh approach to this problem: external e-mail traffic including attachments is secured centrally, encrypted, converted into a PDF document, and then sent to the appropriate recipient as an email. Without any additional encryption software a recipient can read confidential email and send a secure reply, even while on the move via PDA or smartphone: a reply button in the PDF document links the recipient via a web browser with the sender's SafeGuard MailGateway.

In contrast to existing webmail systems however, SafeGuard PDFMail makes mailbox administration for the sender a thing of the past while the recipient can still access the encrypted PDF documents and archive them even when they are offline. It is also possible to customize the layout of SafeGuard PDFMail to meet the company's corporate identity specifications.

"The PDF Mailer function provided by SafeGuard MailGateway 5.2 makes email encryption much more attractive than before: normally users must download their secure contents from websites, which restricts communication considerably. But by using PDFs we have greatly increased the potential for interaction," said Jörg Horn, Head of Gateway Solutions at Utimaco. "PDF readers are so widely used nowadays, particularly Adobe Acrobat Reader, that SafeGuard PDF-Mail can be implemented in an enormous number of ways. SafeGuard PDF-Mail offers previously unheard-of security.”

As part of its restructured product portfolio, Utimaco is renaming its proven SecurE-Mail Gateway to SafeGuard MailGateway with immediate effect and is adding the application for central email security to its SafeGuard Transit product line. SafeGuard MailGateway 5.2 will be available from April at a price of Euros 2,700.
