Citrix Global Load Balancing for Presentation Server Ensures Uninterrupted Access to Mission-Critical Business Applications
New Solution Leverages Citrix NetScaler High-Availability Technology to Improve Business Continuity for Applications Delivered by Presentation Server
ORLANDO, Fla. — Oct. 23, 2006 — Today at its ninth annual business and technology conference, Citrix iForum™ Global 2006, Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), the global leader in application delivery infrastructure, announced a new Global Load Balancing for Presentation Server solution, enabling uninterrupted access to applications delivered by Citrix Presentation Server™ even if entire datacenters go offline as the result of a natural disaster or other emergency. The new solution leverages proven high-availability technology from Citrix® NetScaler® to provide seamless application access across distributed multi-site Citrix Presentation Server deployments. In the event that a regularly accessed Presentation Server site is temporarily unavailable for any reason, application users are automatically and transparently redirected to a designated alternate Presentation Server location. By preventing disruptions to application availability, enterprises can maintain workforce productivity and business continuity even under the worst of conditions.
In a global, knowledge-based economy, a disruptive event such as a power outage, network failure or natural disaster can impact a workforce’s ability to conduct business as usual. When events like these prevent employees from accessing the applications they depend on to do their jobs, the economic impact can be significant. Customers delivering Web applications with Citrix NetScaler have long enjoyed the benefits of NetScaler’s highly-resilient global server load balancing capabilities to ensure “always-on” Web application access across multiple datacenters. With today’s announcement, Citrix extends that same capability to the thousands of customers delivering client-server applications via its flagship Citrix Presentation Server product line.
“Effective business continuity demands that organizations provide transparent and reliable access to critical applications at all times,” said Wes Wasson, corporate vice president, product marketing and strategy, Citrix Systems. “Leading enterprises have used our proven Citrix NetScaler technology for years to ensure transparent, continuous availability to their Web-based applications. We are pleased to extend these same benefits to thousands of Presentation Server customers around the world with this exciting new offering.”
The new solution extends Citrix Presentation Server’s built-in server load distribution functionality with complete, transparent site-to-site failover. In addition, administrators are also freed from managing domain names and URLs for each site, and communicating connectivity information to large numbers of applications users. Customers can implement the Global Load Balancing for Presentation Server solution for all versions of Presentation Server and its related components, including Citrix Access Gateway™, Citrix Web Interface Server, and Citrix® Program Neighborhood® Agent. The appliance-based solution can be easily deployed in front of existing Presentation Server deployments with zero changes, further simplifying business continuity planning for IT administrators.
Pricing and Availability
Pricing for the Citrix Global Load Balancing for Presentation Server solution begins at $27,499, and includes a Citrix NetScaler Application Switch Standard Edition and the NetScaler GLB module running on a NetScaler 7000 appliance.
About Citrix Presentation Server
Citrix Presentation Server virtualizes the delivery of client-server applications, enabling them to be centrally deployed and managed while providing easy, secure, instant access for any user anywhere. This approach ensures the best total cost of ownership (TCO), security, availability, and performance for client/server applications. Presentation Server completely abstracts applications from user’s computers, while delivering a local application access experience with full use of user devices and printers. Application business logic runs on a central server, transmitting only screen pixels, keystrokes, and mouse movements—no actual data—via an encrypted channel to users’ computers. Keeping client-server applications under the centralized control of IT administrators enhances data security, allows maximum user mobility and reduces the costs of managing separate clients and applications on every user’s desktop. Presentation Server runs on virtually any platform, from Microsoft® Windows Server™ 2003 x64 Edition to Windows Server 2003, Windows® 2000 Server, and UNIX®.
About Citrix NetScaler

This approach ensures the best total cost of ownership (TCO), security, availability, and performance for web applications. The Citrix NetScaler solution is a comprehensive network system that combines high-speed load balancing and content switching with state-of-the-art application acceleration, layer 4-7 traffic management, data compression, dynamic content caching, SSL acceleration, network optimization, and robust application security into a single, tightly integrated solution. Deployed in front of application servers, the system significantly reduces processing overhead on application and database servers, reducing hardware and bandwidth costs.
