PARIS, France, 1 June, 2006 - UTStarcom, Inc. (Nasdaq: UTSI), a global leader in IP-based, end-to-end networking solutions and services, has now deployed over one million IP DSLAM (Internet Protocol Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) ports in Europe - one of the largest and fastest growing DSL markets in the world.
The company, which introduced the first IP DSLAM to the market place in the spring of 2001, has deployed its award-winning equipment in France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Austria, as well as having installed, in Japan, the world's largest IP DSLAM network. Global demand for IP DSLAMs is growing due to an emerging imperative to deliver converged triple and quadruple (fixed-line voice, mobile, data and video) play services over IP.
"Tiscali Netherlands' growth has been greatly aided by UTStarcom's IP DSLAM technology, which enables us to offer reliable, high-speed DSL access," said Mr. Bart Oskam, CTO at Tiscali Netherlands. "We are migrating our network to a UTStarcom platform: the low cost of ownership makes us more competitive in the market and speeds our return on investment; the system also enables us to offer our subscribers the latest services quickly and effectively."
UTStarcom's leadership in providing IP DSLAM solutions was recognised in a 2005 report by Heavy Reading where the company's AN-2000 IP DSLAM (now known as the B1000) ranked first in four of the nine categories evaluated for an IP DSLAM Competitive Analysis. The product provides a platform for scalable services over IP, from data through to IPTV, and serves customers from telecom operators to Internet Service Providers.
"UTStarcom's IP DSLAM has met our needs perfectly," said Mr. Peter Rädler, Director Network and System Engineering at Teleport. "As a growing Internet Service Provider, we required a platform that would grow with us, allowing us to extend our customer offering from data to include voice and, eventually, video. UTStarcom's consultative approach ensured that they understood our needs and created the right solution."
UTStarcom's vice president of the EMEA region, Youssef Kassissia, commented, "This milestone confirms our position as a major player in the broadband access solutions market in the EMEA region. DSL growth in this area is showing no signs of abating, and we look forward to continuing to deploy our solutions throughout the region."
