Nieuwegein, July 12, 2005 – Computer Associates International, Inc. (NYSE: CA) today announced its membership in the Anti-Spyware Coalition (ASC). CA joins an alliance of technology companies whose mission is to create consensus regarding spyware definitions, common procedures for dispute resolutions and collaborative prevention efforts to help protect the global user community from this growing threat.
The ASC – which includes major software developers, anti-spyware solution vendors and public interest groups – today unveiled the draft definitions and procedures and made them available for public comment.
“As one of the earliest providers of anti-spyware solutions and a leader in spyware research, CA is committed to helping develop the standards and best practices essential for helping all users – from individuals to large enterprises – protect themselves from unwanted and potentially dangerous programs,” said Tori Case, director of eTrust security management at CA. “Clear guidelines and definitions of what the industry views as bad and why will strengthen the user community’s overall defense against spyware and other intrusive cyber-phenomena.”
“We are delighted to be able to leverage CA’s expertise and experience in our efforts,” said Ari Schwartz, associate director of the Center for Democracy and Technology, which has led the work of the ASC. “The participation of global companies like CA demonstrates the critical role ASC is playing as the focal point for industry-wide efforts to effectively address the spyware problem for the benefit of all PC users.”
