Trend Micro PC-cillin and OfficeScan Achieve Security Industry's First Spyware Certification

Award-winning desktop security solutions complete West Coast Labs' 'Checkmark' certification testing for spyware detection

Utrecht, 18 april 2005 - Trend Micro, Inc. (TSE: 4704, NASDAQ: TMIC), a leader in network antivirus and Internet content security software and services, today announced that both of the company's leading desktop security products, Trend Micro PC-cillin and Trend Micro OfficeScan, have achieved the Checkmark Spyware certification through West Coast Labs, an independent testing organization specializing in the effectiveness and performance of information security products. Trend Micro is the first company to achieve this certification.

Spyware continues to rank high on the list of security priorities for IT administrators. It creates issues involving the privacy and productivity among computer users, from individuals to enterprise organizations. 

To help detect and block malicious spyware, Trend Micro offers integrated anti-spyware solutions that provide customers with comprehensive protection against various Internet-related threats.  These solutions include: Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security for the home and small office environment; Trend Micro OfficeScan for centrally managed corporate clients; and Trend Micro InterScan Web Security Suite for protection at the Internet gateway.

For a company to be certified, products must be able to detect remote access Trojans, key loggers, password and cookie stealers plus other assorted malware in the West Coast Labs Spyware test suite without causing false positive test results. Checkmark standards are continuously evolving to ensure they accurately reflect real-world situations and advances in technology.
