MSN EXTENDS CYBER LIONS SPONSORSHIP TO 2007
Online advertising continues to evolve after decade of creative development
London, 6th January 2005 - MSN, the world's largest provider of online information, communication services and digital marketing is celebrating the rise of online creativity by signing a deal with the International Advertising Festival (IAF) securing its exclusive sponsorship of the Cyber Lions Awards at the Cannes' festival for the next three years.
The agreement, continuing the association between MSN and the IAF since its first sponsorship of the event in 2001, is the most significant in the festival's history and comes just after online advertising celebrates its 10th anniversary.
MSN signs the deal at a time when online has never been more valuable to the marketing mix and creativity is reaching exciting new levels. Since its first appearance as a static banner ad for AT&T in October 1994 the online creative space has continued to evolve and online consumption in Europe now rivals that of newspapers and magazines (EIAA, media consumption study, November 2004).
Chris Dobson, General Manager Sales and Trade Marketing, MSN International says: "We are delighted to extend MSN's support as official exclusive sponsors of the Cyber Lions up to 2007. This is a truly exciting time for online, as the creative community is really beginning to grasp the opportunity that it provides to enable brands to connect with consumers.
We are confident that the Cyber Lions entries over the following three years will continue to push digital marketing boundaries, advancing the adoption of digital marketing throughout the traditional advertising industry."
The Cyber Lions awards honour creative excellence and help champion the power of online as part of the media mix. Digital communication experts from all over the world are given the opportunity to promote their best or most original work as part of the international event to an influential global audience.
Cannes Lions is an annual event held at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes to which industry attendees from around the globe attend to learn more about the diversity of digital marketing creative opportunities opening up for brands. This year's event takes place 19-25 June 2005. Up to 8,000 delegates visited the IAF in Cannes in 2004 and this is expected to grow in 2005, demonstrating the real growth of the industry and the greater importance and awareness of online.
The International Advertising Festival - Cannes Lions - is the largest gathering of worldwide marketing and advertising professionals, as well as the most prestigious advertising awards. Each year, about 8,000 delegates from the advertising and allied industries attend this event to celebrate the crème de la crème of creativity in all major media, discuss industry issues and network with one another. Over 18,000 ads from all over the world are showcased at the Festival and a unique programme of high-profile seminars, organised by some of the biggest names in the industry, is also presented. Winning companies receive the highly coveted Lion awards, honouring the most creative TV/cinema, print, outdoor and online advertising, as well as the best media and direct marketing solutions.
