Rambech was formerly managing director for Sony Ericsson UK and Ireland, the company's most successful subsidiary, after helping to facilitate the joint venture in 2001. Most recently, he held overall global sales and marketing responsibility for Sony Ericsson's entry into the corporate sector.
"A highly successful sales approach combined with excellent credibility in the smartphone sector makes Rambech a very exciting addition to the palmOne team," said Vesey Crichton, VP EMEA, palmOne. "According to Canalys, the worldwide Smartphone market has increased 112% this year from Q2 2003. Source: Worldwide Mobile Devices, August 2004, Canalys (www.canalys.com). In Europe, the rising business use of mobile email is already driving rapid demand for palmOne's Treo 600 smartphone. Rambech's focus will be to accelerate this growth and further increase our ability to extend our leadership position in the PDA sector into the smartphone arena," he continued.
Rambech joins palmOne at a time when demand for its handheld and smartphone products remains strong. The company shipped approximately 1.1 million Zire, Tungsten and Treo devices during its fourth fiscal quarter (ending May 2004) and approximately 4.1 million devices during fiscal year 2004. This brings the total number of devices shipped to date by palmOne to more than 26.4 million.
Prior to Sony Ericsson, Rambech was vice president of global product sales at Ericsson having spent over ten years with the organisation in a variety of sales, marketing and product management roles. His experience extended across both Ericsson's consumer mobile division, where his positions included president of Asia-Pacific, vice president of marketing and general manager for product development; and director of the company's enterprise networks division fulfilling a series of product management and marketing roles.
Commenting on his decision to join palmOne, Rambech says: "I passionately believe in bringing more than voice only communication services to both the consumer and business market. I saw palmOne as the people who invented contact and calendar synchronisation and with the acquisition of Handspring, voice and email capabilities have been added to complete the offering. The dual quality, strength and crystal clear focus that this combination offers to customers is already evident in the Treo 600 smartphone and will only continue to improve in the future."
"We will benefit from years of experience in delivering user friendly experiences and bring functionality as e.g. mobile email to many more professionals across Europe. I believe that palmOne is best placed to lead this education drive and look forward to working with the team and our growing channel community to reinforce the multiple benefits that the company's mobile device propositions offer to different types of end-user."
