Trend Micro Continues Support for Cisco Network Admission Control Program
Newest Enterprise Client Solution Enhances Trend Micro Network Security Strategy
Utrecht, 21 juni 2004 - Trend Micro (TSE: 4704, NASDAQ: TMIC), a leader in network antivirus and Internet content security software and services, today announced its continuing support for the Cisco® Network Admission Control (NAC) Program. Through the release of its latest NAC-compliant enterprise client solution, Trend Micro(tm) OfficeScan(tm) Corporate Edition version 6.5, Trend Micro continues to strengthen and deliver enhanced network security tools to support its Enterprise Protection Strategy.
The NAC program, part of the Cisco Self-Defending Network security strategy, uses network-level verification of client security software to limit the potential damage to enterprise networks from network-based worms and virus threats. Only client systems that are in compliance with the security policies set by IT security administrators, such as having the latest antivirus protection software installed, can be allowed to attach to the network.
"When we first started working with Cisco, we realized there were many parallels between the goals of Trend Micro Enterprise Protection Strategy and Cisco Self-Defending Networks," said Steve Chang, CEO and founder of Trend Micro, Inc. "Our companies share a vision of a comprehensive solution to protect the network from virus and worm threats. Trend Micro's support of the NAC program is an extension of our belief that effective network protection must happen within the network architecture."
Trend Micro OfficeScan Corporate Edition v6.5 is designed to interoperate with networks enabled with NAC-compliant devices to help enforce antivirus security policies. Through the integrated Cisco Trust Agent (CTA), OfficeScan Corporate Edition clients are designed to communicate with Cisco network devices; together, they help administrators automatically enforce network security policies to help avoid virus and worm attacks. This ability is especially important for checking mobile workers or third-party contractors who frequently connect to the network and may not meet such security requirements. Even in the event of an outbreak, the ability to enforce security policy reduces the potential for re-infection by identifying and blocking access of machines without proper security updates.
"The commitment and support of leading vendors like Trend Micro have made the NAC program a reality for customers today," commented Richard Palmer, vice president of Cisco's VPN and Security business unit. "The ability of products like Trend Micro's OfficeScan to integrate smoothly with NAC-enabled networks is the first proof point in our vision of a system level network threat defense and speaks to what industry collaboration around this initiative can achieve."
Trend Micro's support for the NAC program extends the principles of Trend Micro Enterprise Protection Strategy, which provides customers with a comprehensive approach to managing the impact to productivity and information from mixed threats, such as network worms and viruses, throughout the entire outbreak lifecycle.
