Avaya Gains Enterprise IP Telephony Leadership Position in EMEA
Industry analyst firm Synergy Research Group names Avaya as the leading provider of converged and IP telephony port shipments in EMEA during the last quarter of 2003
WATERLOO, BELGIUM - Avaya Inc., (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of communications networks and services for businesses, today announced that according to a recent report issued by industry analyst firm Synergy Research Group, it was the leading enterprise converged telephony provider in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) in 2003. This number one position is measured by the number of converged telephony ports shipped in the region. A converged telephony system allows organizations to migrate incrementally to an IP infrastructure whilst maintaining their existing investments in PBXs and traditional phones. This approach enables companies to enjoy the benefits of IP telephony, such as simplified management, particularly over distributed networks; increased productivity, for example through new applications that support mobility and remote working; and reduced costs, at a path and pace that suits their business need.
According to the report, "Q4 2003 Enterprise VoIP EMEA Market Shares", Avaya shipped more than 141,000 ports in the fourth quarter of 2003, taking more than 40 percent of the market, nearly double the next competitor company. For the year, Avaya shipped nearly 380,000 ports, achieving leadership with just under 33 percent of the market, nearly 9 percentage points ahead of its nearest rival. In the overall enterprise IP telephony market, Avaya was also number one during the fourth quarter of 2003, taking 23 percent of the market to put it more than five percentage points ahead of the nearest competitor.
"Avaya continues to build on its leadership position in IP Telephony, producing strong market share gains in the EMEA region in the fourth quarter," said Jeremy Duke, President & CEO, Synergy Research Group. "Avaya continues to execute on its strategy in providing a smooth migration path from traditional voice networks to next generation IP Telephony."
"European companies increasingly recognize that a well-implemented IP communications solution will enable them to derive greater value from their network, bringing benefits such as improved productivity, greater flexibility and reduced management costs," said Lars-Ole Hansen, President, EMEA. "The Synergy results confirm that our focus on providing solutions that enable organizations to migrate to IP telephony at their desired pace is resonating with businesses around the world."
Avaya provides a full portfolio of IP communications systems and applications for all types of businesses, from small- to medium-enterprises (SMEs) to global multinational organizations, supported by a comprehensive set of consulting, security, maintenance and managed services.
European customers implementing IP telephony solutions from Avaya include Spanish financial services provider Grupo Santander, global professional services firm Ernst & Young, and Dutch trade union De Unie.
The full Synergy report, entitled "Q4 2003 Enterprise VoIP EMEA Market Shares," covers the EMEA enterprise voice market, providing market share data for Enterprise VoIP Gateways and Enterprise Telephony -- covering both IP and TDM telephony. Market share for IP telephony is given in terms of ports and revenues for LAN telephony, Converged Telephony and IP Phones. The data in this announcement was drawn from port data for EMEA enterprise IP telephony as a whole and for EMEA converged telephony.
