Intel Solutions Conference, IDF, Barcelona, Spain. April 20, 2004 - Today, Atos Origin and Intel are announcing that they are working together on an initiative called The Next Generation Desktop (NGDT).
The objective of Next Generation Desktop is significant reduction of IT deployment and support costs, through continuous innovation in managing Desktop and Mobile environments, using new technologies and enhanced features to improve IT efficiency. Next Generation Desktop will support a substantial IT migration - 200,000 desktop PCs and 3,000 servers - over the next year.
Through Next Generation Desktop, Atos Origin and Intel plan to define, implement and support innovative solutions to mutual clients including: PC Lifecycle Management, Desktop Standardization Management and Mobile Workplace Management.

The main platforms that will support Next Generation Desktop incorporate: Pentium(r) 4 processor with Hyper Threading (HT) Technology-based desktops, Intel(r) Centrino(tm) Mobile Technology-based laptops, Intel(r) Itanium(r)2 processor and Intel(r) Xeon(tm) MP processor-based servers. Microsoft Windows* XP and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 will be the operating systems of choice.

Next Generation DeskTop Lab
As part of the cooperation, Intel will participate in Atos Origin's NGDT lab. The lab will be a center of innovation for Desktop, Mobile and Server Solutions. The intent of this lab is to demonstrate and showcase Software Solutions running on Intel-based Architecture: desktops based on Intel(r) Pentium(r) 4 Processor with Hyper Threading (HT) Technology, servers with Intel Xeon(tm) or Itanium(r)2 processors, notebooks and Tablet PCs with Intel(r) Centrino(tm) Mobile Technology, and Intel
XScale(r) Technology handheld devices. Intel will support customers with consulting and expert advice provided through Intel Solutions Services.
