SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 15 -- Network Associates, Inc. (NYSE: NET), the leading provider of intrusion prevention solutions, today announced
McAfee(R) SpamKiller(R) 2.0 and McAfee(R) GroupShield(TM) 5.3 for Lotus Domino. McAfee GroupShield installed on Lotus Domino servers prevent viruses and malicious code, including Internet worms, Lotus Script and infected email. McAfee GroupShield for Lotus Domino is 100% compatible with McAfee SpamKiller. With five levels of spam protection, McAfee SpamKiller for Lotus Domino is optimized by a weighted scoring system that delivers up to 95% accuracy with low false positive detection, providing a robust solution for enterprise anti-spam protection.
According to a recent Computer Security Institute Survey, financial losses attributed to inappropriate email and Internet use in the United States soared from $35,001,650 with an average loss per organization of $357,160 in 2001, to $50,099,000 with an average of $536,000 in 2002.
"With McAfee SpamKiller and McAfee GroupShield for Lotus Domino, Lotus Domino users can now deploy proven McAfee technology for unmatched anti-spam detection and proactive protection against viruses and malicious code threats," said Robin Matlock, vice president of product marketing for Network Associates McAfee Systems Protection Solutions Group. "IT administrators will be able to reduce the threat of inappropriate content reaching employee inboxes and safeguard their network from the transfer of malicious threats."
With McAfee GroupShield, Lotus Domino users benefit from an added layer of defense that incorporates virus detection, cleaning and content filtering and blocking, for complete anti-virus protection against viruses, worms and Trojans. McAfee GroupShield also includes McAfee Outbreak Manager to proactively prevent large-scale mass mailer outbreaks and McAfee Alert Manager to provide IT administrators with unparalleled notification of malicious threats.
McAfee GroupShield offers secure content management capabilities that allow IT managers to establish rules to qualify email when it is received or before it is sent, both internally and externally. Undesirable content, such as profanity, sexist or racist subject matter, can be filtered before it enters the corporate network, preventing legal and productivity issues that can arise when employees receive offensive e-mail messages.
McAfee SpamKiller technology uses a highly accurate scoring system to determine whether a particular email is spam. With the extensive set of rules that run behind SpamKiller, each email receives a positive or negative score to determine its overall spam rating, and once spam is detected, messages are either delivered to the end-users inbox, personal junk mail folder or a system-wide junk folder.
By utilizing five different methods of detection, McAfee Security gives IT administrators a proactive and comprehensive solution to fighting spam:
- Integrity Analysis -- Examines the header, layout and organization of every incoming email message and applies thousands of algorithms to determine if the email is spam
- Heuristic Detection -- With a set of automated rules based on known spam characteristics, SpamKiller works proactively to secure the network against spam
- Content Filtering -- The administrator-defined set of words and phrases helps further identify unwanted email and inappropriate content
- Personalized Black and White Lists -- A set of standards defined by the administrator and users utilizing white-and black-lists to determine both acceptable senders of email, as well as unwanted and unacceptable senders of email
- Self-tuning -- With the ability to learn the characteristics of email received at the desktop, SpamKiller(R) powered by SpamAssassin(TM) is about to adjust the overall spam score for messages received from known senders
McAfee GroupShield and McAfee SpamKiller are both managed by McAfee ePolicy
Orchestrator(R) (ePO(TM)), providing enterprise software deployment, policy management and graphical reporting from one console. McAfee ePO provides IT administrators with the visibility they need to evaluate their policy's effectiveness, evaluate their network's weak points and to customize reports to fit their specific needs.
