SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 3 -- Network Associates, Inc. (NYSE: NET), the leading provider of intrusion prevention solutions, today announced the beta release of the System Compliance Profiler, a new component of the market leading McAfee(R) ePolicy Orchestrator(R) (ePO(TM)). The System Compliance Profiler enables security professionals to quickly assess system security compliance, including the presence of Microsoft security patches and common operating environment compliance, ensuring that enterprise systems are less vulnerable to malicious-code attacks.
The System Compliance Profiler is a feature of McAfee ePO, the system security management tool that gives IT administrators the visibility they need to evaluate their protection's effectiveness, enforce protection, and customize reports to fit their specific needs. The System Compliance Profiler is an added feature that will help IT administrators quickly profile their systems to establish that they have the correct patches installed and that they are Common Operating Environment (COE) compliant.
It will also profile the integrity of the installed patches, quickly search for authorized applications and then provide IT managers with comprehensive graphical reports on the state of their system security compliance.
"As enterprises continue to increase the number of critical application servers and the rate at which servers and software are changed, they will need to have processes and technology in place to quickly identify missing software patches and service packs on servers and desktops to understand their security exposures," said John Pescatore, vice president for Internet Security at Gartner.
"The System Compliance Profiler will give our McAfee ePO customers the visibility they need to evaluate their system compliance and exposure to vulnerabilities," said Robin Matlock, vice president of Network Associates(R) McAfee System Protection Solutions Group. "IT administrators will save time and money through reduced patch deployment and management costs and will have more control over their network. This will enable businesses to shift their investment from scrambling to respond to new vulnerability announcements to proactive protection of the end node."
The System Compliance Profiler conducts profiling, which is based on rules customized by the administrator. Through profiling, it will search for a file, service registry key or specific Microsoft patch number. Patch "fingerprinting" is also available to ensure absolute integrity of Microsoft security patches and prevent patch spoofing. As an integral component of McAfee ePO, customers can also access unparalleled visibility into the security compliance of their systems through graphical compliance reports.
