Geneva, August 22, 2003 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in data storage, today announced that Quantum Corporation (NYSE:DSS), a leading provider of data protection systems, has been selected to provide its tape autoloader products to Iomega for its new Iomega NAS Backup solutions - a series of complete backup, recovery, archive and data protection solutions for small and medium-sized businesses.
Quantum's Storage Solutions Group, well known for providing a comprehensive line of industry leading tape automation products for small and medium-sized businesses, will be the source for tape-based archive and disaster recovery products that will be integrated into the new Iomega NAS Backup solutions, expected to ship later this month.
"Iomega's new NAS Backup bundles provide VARs with turnkey solutions needed to solve the data continuity problems of today's small and medium-sized businesses," said Werner Heid, president and CEO, Iomega Corporation.
"Integrating Iomega NAS servers with Iomega-branded tape autoloaders from Quantum delivers the best of all worlds: shorter backup and recovery windows made possible by the NAS server, and the unbeatable data security and archive advantages of industry-leading tape products. In effect, the end user backs up to NAS, and archives to tape."
Larry Orecklin, president of Quantum's Storage Solutions Group, said, "Quantum is pleased to be working with Iomega as the OEM supplier of tape
autoloader hardware for Iomega's NAS Backup bundles. Quantum has put much
focus on delivering value and performance based autoloaders, and by working together, our companies are combining some of the best data protection attributes of disk-based NAS and tape automation that is easy for users to install and support."
Iomega NAS Backup solutions will provide a robust and affordable data continuity solution. Each system will include a Windows® Powered Iomega NAS server with up to 1.28 TB of capacity (native), an Iomega tape autoloader with up to 6.4 TB of backup capacity (compressed), and Computer Associates BrightStor ARCserve 9.0 and eTrust AntiVirus 7.0. Bundled systems will be pre-tested and certified for interoperability by Iomega.
Key Benefits
The Iomega NAS Backup bundle reduces the time, cost, and complexity of recovering from a data disaster. It is compatible with existing network backup software because the NAS server manages the tape library or autoloader directly, sending data across the SCSI connection to reduce network traffic.
For resellers and their customers, the Iomega NAS Backup bundle also lowers the cost of a full featured data continuity solution and delivers real performance gains:
· High data rate: disk-to-disk performance reduces backup and recovery
time.
· Low network load: NAS server is backed up directly to the autoloader,
minimizing network traffic.
· Simplicity: Tape management software manages backup, recovery and
anti-virus protection for the entire bundle.
Pricing and Availability
Iomega NAS Backup bundles are scheduled to begin shipping later this month.
Bundle pricing will include an Iomega NAS unit, an Iomega Tape autoloader, data continuity software, and a Windows agent for one remote server.
Product specifics and pricing will be announced later this month.
