Buy a Palm Campus Pack 2003 including a Palm Zire handheld and a limited edition Zire backpack (1)Breda, 5 August, 2003 - Palm is challenging students returning to school or university to lighten the load this year and replace traditional diaries and pens with a stylish Palm Zire handheld computer in its Palm Campus Pack 2003 promotion. Recognising that there are still some important reference books that can't be left behind, students who purchase a Zire handheld (2) , between early-August and mid-October, will also receive a stylish, lightweight backpack with a specially designed pocket for the Zire handheld and a mobile phone pocket.
The Zire handheld is the ultimate easy-to-use and cool companion for students and can be used for both their educational and personal needs.
With a Zire handheld students will:
- never be late for class by over-sleeping! The Zire handheld has a built-in alarm clock;
- never have to enter their timetable more than once - the repeat function of the Palm Date Book will do it for a whole term;
- keep track of the library's opening times on the Memo pad;
- never worry about being caught without paper - notes and ideas can be scribbled directly onto the Note Pad in seconds;
- keep track of birthdays with the anniversary function - it's easy to forget important dates when far from home;
- never lose touch with family and friends - the Zire handheld can hold thousands of addresses and phone numbers; and
- have the chance to relax after a hard day's study, with their favourite game downloaded onto their handheld.
There are also numerous educational applications (sold separately) available to download from the Palm website, so that the Zire handheld can be tailored to suit any individual's college life.
Applications for educational purposes include:
- Action Names School (Iambic) ? a management tool for keeping track of timetables and course work. This application can be customised for each subject students are studying, and allows them to set alarms for deadlines and keep track of their schedules;
- EasyCalc (Ondrej Palkovsky) ? turns a Palm handheld into an advanced scientific graphing calculator with trigonometric functions and vector operations. The software provides a portable environment for users to draw and manipulate graphs and solve equations;
- ImagiMath (ImagiWorks) ? an integrated set of mathematical software applications, including ImagiGraph, a mathematics visualiser; ImagiCalc, a full-featured calculator; and ImagiSolve, a mathematical worksheet and equation solver;
- Ababall (Iambic) ? everyone needs a break from time to time, so Palm has also included a cool game to help students relax. Players enjoy fluid 2-D and 3-D graphics as they blast their way through 32 levels of fun and mayhem in this exciting and quick-moving action game;
- SlovoEd (Paragon Technologie) ? a bi-directional dictionary that lets users translate words while using another application. This trial version also includes five complete dictionaries in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
Commenting on the promotion, Franck Gaget, marketing director, EMEA, said, "As the pressure becomes ever greater for the student to succeed, Palm has recognised the importance of providing a simple, easy-to-use handheld at relatively low cost to help students get organised. This promotion is designed to encourage students, who have not yet considered a handheld as a beneficial study tool, to make the leap and leave behind their heavy filofax."
