KPN is pleased to announce the launch of international network services using Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology. The KPN international backbone network is now MPLS enabled, allowing KPN to offer MPLS VPN (Virtual Private Network) services across ten European countries.
As Senior Vice President of KPN EuroRings, Henjo Groenewegen explained, "In my view, MPLS is a key development in Internet technology and it will be implemented in the majority of core networks in the future, especially within converged data and voice networks." He continued, "Instead of operating on a purely best effort basis, our new MPLS capabilities will allow customers to classify and prioritize applications over their network according to their own business needs, whilst providing them with a high level of performance, security and reliability."
KPN's MPLS VPN service is now available across the European network, throughout The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, UK, Spain, Ireland, Austria, and Italy - with connectivity to the USA. The MPLS VPN service will also become available in additional European countries during 2003. The service provides customers with all the benefits of using the industry-leading MPLS protocol such as service security, flexibility, and the ability to implement traffic prioritisation to improve application performance. Additionally, the KPN MPLS VPN offers customers a choice of four classes of service, fully integrated Internet access and extensive web-based network management services.
