Borland C++ Mobile Edition for Series 60, Nokia Edition provides developers with technology to rapidly create applications for the emerging mobile device market. The solution includes a version of Borland® C++ Builder® 6, engineered to help teams work together with greater efficiency, speed and precision. It also includes the Series 60 Software Development Kit (SDK) for Symbian OS™, Nokia Edition, and a C++ Mobile Edition plug-in. This plug-in functions as an interface between C++ Builder 6 and the SDK, which includes a Series 60 emulator, full documentation sample source code and other essentials for the creation of applications for Series 60 based devices.
Borland C++ Mobile Edition accelerates time-to-market for organisations creating applications for the Series 60 Platform by enabling the re-use of existing Symbian application source code. This means that Symbian developers do not have to rewrite code to import their solutions to Borland C++ Mobile Edition. They are also able to create, test and debug applications within a Series 60 emulator. By eliminating the need for a mobile device in the development cycle, teams can create applications for these devices prior to their commercial availability.
"We are pleased that Borland is providing a fully integrated Series 60 development environment," said Juha Ikonen, Director of Tools Solutions, Forum Nokia. "The solution directly supports the Series 60 Platform for the C++ developers worldwide who use Borland technology, as well as other C++ developers interested in deploying mobile applications on the Series 60 platform."
"C++ Mobile Edition gives developers the ability to create mobile business and entertainment applications for devices based on the Series 60 Platform," said Mika Alapiessa, regional director at Borland. "We are committed to providing solutions for accelerating application development. The Borland C++ Mobile Edition for Series 60, Nokia Edition speeds and simplifies the development cycle, offering development, debugging, and deployment capabilities that significantly reduce the time needed to create mobile applications."
The Series 60 Platform, licensed to Nokia, Panasonic, Samsung, Sendo and Siemens - which together represent almost two-thirds of the global handset market - runs on top of the Symbian OS™, an operating system for advanced, data-enabled mobile phones and the first mobile operating system fully supported by Borland C++. Series 60 devices provide rich communications and enhanced applications consisting of telephony and personal information management applications, browser and messaging clients, and a modifiable user interface designed for easy, one-handed operation. Current Series 60 devices include the Nokia 7650 and 3650 imaging phones, and the recently announced Nokia N-Gage™ game deck.
