SAN FRANCISCO (April 15, 2003) — Critical Path, Inc. (Nasdaq: CPTH), a global leader in digital communications software and services, today announced that T-Mobile International, one of the world's leading mobile telephony providers, has chosen Critical Path's hosted messaging service to power its new T-ZonesSM T-email service that will be marketed to millions of mobile phone subscribers, giving them easy, click-of-a-button access to email, SMS, telephone numbers, calendar entries and other services. T-Mobile International plans to initially rollout the new T-Zones mobile messaging service in June in the United Kingdom, Austria and Germany.
In outsourcing its messaging operations to Critical Path, T-Mobile will be able to rapidly offer subscribers an extensive range of new mobile messaging services that help drive data traffic and revenue. T-Mobile will also gain a competitive advantage in offering mobile phone users unprecedented ease-of-access to their personal data.
"The advanced mobility features of the new service provided by Critical Path will provide a significant enhancement to our mobile data solutions as an integral part of the new T-Zones offering to our customers," said Klaus Weiss, head of product management for T-Mobile International. "Outsourcing our T-email solution to Critical path will also give us a significant time-to-market advantage as we seek to offer the next generation T-Zones services to our customers. With its sophisticated built-in billing, provisioning and reporting capabilities, Critical Path's service offers the total solution."
Critical Path's hosted messaging service allows customers mobile access to email, calendaring, a centralized personal address book, to-do lists, dynamic alerts, SMS, instant messaging, as well as anti-spam & anti-virus protection. Its standards-based messaging services are accessible from mobile handsets, desktop clients and browser-based interfaces. Critical Path also provides access to subscribers who use Pocket-PC based mobile devices such as the T-Mobile MDA. The offer focuses on mobile-centric access and user experience, making it easy for users to enjoy their new service the moment they pick up their handset.
"Our hosted messaging service is a cost-effective, reliable way to offer the very latest messaging applications without the massive IT infrastructure investments and associated risks typically needed," said Tracy Currie, executive vice president and general manager, hosted messaging at Critical Path. "We're thrilled that T-Mobile will be leveraging the state-of-the-art mobility features of our platform to offer new services to their subscribers."
