BOSTON - March 13, 2003: Baltimore Technologies (London: BLM), a global leader in e-security, today announced that it has successfully demonstrated technical compatibility with the requirements of the US government's Federal Bridge Certification Authority (FBCA). The General Services Administration (GSA), the operational authority for the FBCA, confirmed that Baltimore is the first PKI (public-key infrastructure) vendor to complete a series of tests that demonstrate interoperability with the FBCA, for both a PKI product and managed service.
The FBCA has rigorously tested the Baltimore UniCERT(tm) Certificate Authority to prove compatibility with the public-key infrastructures of federal agencies. For the first time in history, the Defense and Treasury Departments, NASA and the Agricultural Department's National Finance Center will accept each other's digital certificates through the Federal Bridge, with further agencies due to participate. The Federal Bridge enables agencies to connect through a national PKI that allows each agency's electronic credentials to be accepted by other agencies.
"The GSA is committed to data integrity and to securing information through shared credentials. The certification positions Baltimore Technologies as a key security provider within the Federal Bridge infrastructure," commented Denis Kelly, executive vice president Global Operations, Baltimore Technologies plc. "This independent testing testifies to both our open standards architecture and our flexibility in being able to deliver UniCERT as either a managed service or an in-house product."
Completion of the interoperability testing confirms Baltimore's position as a leading e-security vendor in both the US and global government sector. In the US, Intelink, the classified, worldwide Intranet for the US Intelligence Community, uses UniCERT to issue and manage high trust digital credentials for users accessing their intelligence resources. The agency links 75,000 users across a number of intelligence organizations, including the CIA and FBI, who collectively visit the site five million times each week. Furthermore, the Department of Justice uses Baltimore security products to provide authentication and authorization services.
Baltimore Technologies is the leading supplier of high-end security products to governments worldwide at both a national and local level. Clients include the Ministry of the Interior and Ministry of Finance, Italy, Ministry of Defence, UK, Norwegian Defence, Irish Revenue, Australian Tax Office, Australian Defence, Dutch Government and the Government of Valencia, Spain, Baltimore's products.
Baltimore Technologies recently opened a division in Virginia, Baltimore Federal Systems, to service the US Federal Government market. Its PKI products and services are now available to government agencies through the NASA SEWP III GWAC (Scientific Engineering & Workstation Procurement III Government-Wide Acquisition Contract), where Baltimore is represented by Intelligent Decisions, Inc.
