MACROMEDIA COLDFUSION MX UPDATED TO SUPPORT SUN ONE PLATFORM AND IBM APPLICATION SERVER 5

ColdFusion MX adds to J2EE developer productivity solutions with support for the Sun ONE Application Server 7 and IBM Webspere Application Server 5

Utrecht, 16 January 2003 – Macromedia, Inc. (Nasdaq: MACR) announces the immediate availability of two updates to Macromedia ColdFusion MX. The first update, for SunÔ ONE, delivers support for the Sun ONE Application Server 7, while the second adds support for IBM WebSphereâ Application Server 5. Macromedia ColdFusion MX brings the proven ease of use and productivity of ColdFusion to the highly scalable, standards-based Java technology architecture.

Both updates are available for immediate download from http://www.macromedia.com/go/cfmxupdate/.

"The integration of ColdFusion MX with the highly scalable and reliable Sun ONE Application Server delivers productivity benefits for customers who want to utilize their existing skills to leverage the power of the Java platform," said Mark Herring, senior director of marketing, Sun ONE Java web services and tools, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "Thousands of customers rely on the standards-based Sun ONE platform to power their mission-critical applications and services."

The Sun software products are key components of the Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) - an open, integratable product portfolio enabling the development and delivery of Java web services.

"Customers have seen significant value combining Macromedia ColdFusion MX and the Sun ONE platform," said Jeff Whatcott, senior director, Macromedia. "ColdFusion is a way for them to increase developer productivity while reducing cost and time to deliver robust Java applications."

"By leveraging IBM WebSphere for delivering web applications, Macromedia helps customers be more competitive in today's e-business arena," said Scott Hebner, director of marketing, IBM WebSphere software. "IBM WebSphere provides the highly scalable and reliable foundation for ColdFusion MX to deliver powerful Java-based applications."

"Macromedia ColdFusion MX for IBM WebSphere enables developers to rapidly build applications that harness the power, scalability, and reliability of the J2EE standard WebSphere platform," said Jeff Whatcott, senior director, Macromedia. "Our relationship with IBM enables customers to leverage their strategic investments in the WebSphere platform while expanding the reach of ColdFusion MX technology."

Deployed as a standard Java application, ColdFusion MX for Sun ONE and ColdFusion MX for IBM WebSphere provide a robust productivity layer that enables development organizations to better leverage their investments in the J2EE infrastructure. Using high-level ColdFusion scripting, built-in services, and seamless integration with the Java platform, ColdFusion MX provides a fast track to J2EE for developers who already know ASP, CFML, PHP, or other scripting languages. By adding rapid server scripting to their J2EE environment, organizations can empower non-Java developers to tightly collaborate with Java developers to deliver integrated, standards-based rich Internet applications while reducing costs and development time.

"As a full-service web media developer, we face a daily tug-of-war to provide higher quality at low costs. With Macromedia Studio MX and ColdFusion MX, we can deliver both consistently and without compromise," said Steven A. del Sol, vice president, development, NETPACQ Systems, Inc., a Macromedia Alliance partner. "With the power and flexibility of ColdFusion MX for J2EE and the IBM WebSphere platform, our development and technical teams can rapidly create feature-rich web infrastructures that are highly reliable with easy upkeep. Most important to our own bottom line, the Macromedia MX tools allow us to deliver true value, reliability, and profitably to our clients."

"ColdFusion MX for Sun ONE is a great combination for us," said Jon Cline, application designer, American Film Institute. "We can now deliver solutions that incorporate the best capabilities of both platforms.  That means we get the scalability, reliability, and standards support of the Sun ONE platform along with the rapid development and ease of use of ColdFusion."

Macromedia ColdFusion MX for IBM WebSphere Application Server and Macromedia ColdFusion MX for Sun ONE are part of the ColdFusion for J2EE product line.
Macromedia and Sun Microsystems collaborated on the development of ColdFusion MX for Sun ONE and both companies will continue to jointly execute sales and marketing activities.

Macromedia and IBM will continue to work together through joint sales, marketing, and technical support activities. ColdFusion MX also added support for users running WebSphere 4 or 5 on AIX. IBM resells ColdFusion MX for IBM WebSphere via its Passport Advantage volume licensing program.
