Capelle a/d IJssel, 6 januari 2002 - Novell and EMC Corporation today announced a joint solution to help customers secure the valuable information stored on their corporate PCs, particularly laptops that are especially vulnerable to being lost or stolen. The combination of Novell(r) iFolder(tm) and EMC Automated Networked Storage enables business continuity and avoids costly data loss by backing up and securing corporate data without relying on action by the end user.
Many companies rely on end users to back up data, but research indicates that up to 92 percent of all business PCs are not being backed up at all.** Novell iFolder automatically backs up critical data to EMC Symmetrix(r) and CLARiiON(r) networked storage systems, providing worry-free protection and ensuring user files are always secure and up to date.
"EMC provides integrated business continuity solutions for our customers, helping them manage and protect their critical information," said Don Swatik, vice president of EMC's Solutions Group. "Together, EMC and Novell's complementary technology help customers save money, because their data will be where they need it, when they need it, without the cost and stress of restoring lost intellectual capital stored on desktops."
EMC Automated Networked Storage solutions combine all storage networking technologies, storage platforms, software and services to enable organizations to better and more cost effectively manage, protect and share their information. Automated networked storage enables increased server consolidation, a rise in storage utilization rates and enhanced business continuity through instant restore and automated backup capabilities. When implemented with Novell iFolder, EMC Automated Networked Storage puts critical data at the center of the business, improves capacity utilization and ensures availability of critical files to users.
Jeff Hawkins, vice president of product management for Novell's cross-platform networking services group, said this most-recent aspect of Novell's ongoing relationship with EMC leverages each company's leadership and ability to use technology to solve customer problems. "Customers benefit from proven solutions, information security, customer ease of use, high performance in both hardware and software, and manageability. Most important, customers are able to save money, allowing them to compete more effectively and return a profit to their stakeholders."
In addition to backing up a user's files, Novell iFolder makes those files always available, anywhere, on any Internet-enabled machine. It also synchronizes those files across all types of networks and on any computer the user chooses, meaning a user truly has access to the latest information wherever he or she may be. Part of Novell Nterprise(tm) - a set of services that improve communication, simplify and automate network management, and allow workers to be productive regardless of location, device or platform - Novell iFolder runs on Linux*, Solaris* and Windows NT*/2000 as well as Novell NetWare(r).
