The Hague, Netherlands, February 2026, Key2XS® today announces
ActiveAuth®, a groundbreaking authentication technology designed for critical infrastructure and high-trust environments. Built on a newly filed
European patent, ActiveAuth® introduces
active authentication a method that verifies users based on context and behavior rather than personal data.
A new layer of trust for the physical world
Traditional authentication relies on credentials or biometrics both of which can be shared, stolen, or spoofed. ActiveAuth® changes that model.
When a technician or operator requests to
reactivate access rights on an electronic key, ActiveAuth® silently evaluates contextual signals such as device movement, orientation, proximity, and environment. If the pattern matches previous legitimate behavior, access is reactivated automatically. If it differs, the user is prompted for a short step-up check.
The result: stronger security, no friction and
no personal data ever stored.
Technology grounded in European innovation
The patented method, titled
“Method and System for Active Authentication,” enables continuous, privacy-preserving verification by:
- Collecting short-lived contextual measurements (motion, proximity, environmental noise)
- Comparing them to trusted behavioral patterns using AI or statistical models
- Triggering reauthentication only when risk increases
- Updating trust models dynamically without storing personally identifiable information This makes ActiveAuth® the first authentication system built for NIS2, CER, and GDPR compliance by design.
Privacy without compromise
ActiveAuth® processes
only pseudonymous, contextual signals.
No usernames, passwords, GPS coordinates, or biometric data are stored, ensuring full alignment with EU data-protection principles.
All operations can run
in the cloud,
locally or in air-gapped mode, giving operators complete control over where and how authentication occurs.
Integrated with Key2XS®
ActiveAuth® is the adaptive authentication layer within the
Key2XS® ecosystem, the platform that bridges IAM systems like Microsoft Entra ID, SailPoint, Okta, OpenText, Omada and One Identity with physical smart key systems such as ASSA ABLOY and iLOQ. Where Key2XS® defines
who may access which physical asset, ActiveAuth® determines
when and
under what conditions that access should be allowed.
Together they deliver
Zero Trust for the Physical World.
