De Nationale VrijMiBo is initieel mogelijk gemaakt door een samenwerkingsverband van vier brancheverenigingen en drie ondernemingen binnen de Nederlandse ICT-sector: BTG (Brancheorganisatie Telecom Grootgebruikers), DINL (Stichting Digitale Infrastructuur Nederland), DDA (Dutch Data Center Association), NLdigital, Nalta, stichting New Dutch Wave en 247Streaming. De eerste editie vond plaats op vrijdag 3 april en werd ingevuld door Jett Rebel en geopend door staatsecretaris Mona Keijzer.
